Founded in Florence, Italy in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, the luxury fashion house has been passed down through four generations of the family. Today, Patrizia Gucci is the creative director and CEO of the company, which is worth an estimated $12 billion.
The Gucci family has a long history in the fashion industry. patriarch Guccio Gucci worked as a porter at London’s Savoy Hotel before opening his own store in Florence. He started out selling leather goods such as saddles and bags.
His son Aldo joined the business in 1933, followed by his grandsons Maurizio and Paolo in 1965 and 1972 respectively. The three brothers are credited with turning the company into a global powerhouse. In 2015, Patrizia Gucci took over as creative director and CEO after her father Maurizio stepped down from those roles.
She has vowed to keep the family legacy alive while also modernizing the brand for a new generation of customers. Under her leadership, Gucci has launched several successful collaborations with other brands and celebrities including Harry Styles, Dapper Dan, and Supreme.
