Private Schools in Pakistan
Nowadays, private schools are mushrooming in every nook and corner of Pakistan. It is estimated that there are more than 20,000 private schools in Pakistan catering to about 5 million students. The fee charged by these schools varies from a few hundred rupees to a couple of thousand rupees per month.
The reasons for the popularity of private schools could be many but the most important one is the quality of education imparted in these institutions. The teaching staff is usually better qualified and experienced as compared to their counterparts in government run schools. Moreover, the infrastructure and facilities in private schools are also generally better.
Another reason for parents opting to send their children to private schools is due to the perception that government run institutions are not safe anymore. In the wake of terrorist attacks on Army Public School in Peshawar, many parents feel that it is simply too risky to send their wards to government institutions. However, not everything is rosy about private schooling in Pakistan.
There have been complaints about high fees and arbitrary expulsion of students by some unscrupulous school managements. Also, there is no regulatory body for private schools which means that they can get away with a lot of things.
