The education system in Pakistan is divided into five levels: primary (grades one through five); middle (grades six through eight); high (grades nine and ten, leading to the Secondary School Certificate); intermediate (grades eleven and twelve, leading to the Higher Secondary School Certificate); and university programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees. According to the National Education Census 2015-16, there are a total of 40913 schools in Pakistan including 25987 government schools, 14726 private schools and 9200 madrassas.
