Nawaz Sharif is a Sunni Muslim. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan to an upper-middle-class family. His father, Muhammad Sharif, was a successful businessman who owned Ittefaq Group.

Nawaz’s mother, Shamim Akhtar, was a housewife. He has two brothers and two sisters. As a child, he attended Saint Anthony High School before transferring to the Lawrence College Ghora Gali.

In 1974, he graduated from the Government College University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. He then attended Punjab University Law College and obtained LLB degree in 1977.
