The Rock Life History

A rock’s life history can be divided into three main parts: its formation, alteration, and destruction. A rock forms when minerals crystallize out of a melt or are precipitated from a solution. Once formed, a rock may be altered by processes such as weathering and metamorphism.

Finally, rocks can be destroyed by erosion and melting.

The rock life history is a fascinating story. The rocks that we see today have been around for millions of years, and they have an incredible history. Most rocks are formed from other rocks that have been broken down over time.

This process is called weathering. Weathering can happen due to wind, rain, ice, or even just the movement of the Earth’s surface. Over time, these smaller pieces of rock are combined and cemented together to form larger rocks.

Rocks can also be formed by lava that cools and solidifies on the surface of the Earth. This type of rock is called igneous rock. Igneous rocks are made up of minerals that were once molten (liquid), but they have cooled and hardened into a solid state.

Sedimentary rocks are another type of rock that can be found on Earth’s surface. Sedimentary rocks are made up of smaller pieces of rock that have been combined together by water or wind. Over time, these sediments become compressed and cemented together to form a sedimentary rock.
