Pakistan Sports Cricket
Pakistan is a cricket-obsessed nation, and the sport is by far the most popular in the country. Cricket is played everywhere, from the streets to the parks to the beaches. The Pakistan national cricket team has been very successful over the years, winning the Cricket World Cup in 1992 and reaching the final on three other occasions.
They have also been crowned champions of the ICC Champions Trophy on two occasions. Pakistan is currently ranked sixth in the world in Test cricket and seventh in ODI cricket. The Pakistani cricket team has always been blessed with talented players, many of whom have gone on to become legends of the game.
Names like Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi and Inzamam-ul-Haq are just some of those who have thrilled Pakistani fans over the years with their skill and flamboyance. Cricket means so much to Pakistanis that it often transcends tribal rivalries and regional differences. Whenever Pakistan plays India – its biggest rivals – or any other team for that matter, all of Pakistan unites behind its team.
Cricket matches between Pakistan and India are always hotly contested affairs and are followed closely by millions of fans on both sides of the border. Such is Pakistan’s love for cricket that even when other sports manage to capture imaginations – such as when hockey player Manzoor Hussain won gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics – it is still cricket that remains king.
