Ministry of Sports Pakistan

The Ministry of Sports, Pakistan, is a governmental body responsible for the development and promotion of sports in Pakistan. The ministry was established in 1958. The current minister is Nawaz Sharif.

The mission of the ministry is to develop and promote physical education and sports in Pakistan so as to create healthy, well-educated and physically strong citizens. The ministry organizes different sporting events at national level such as National Games, Inter-Provincial Games and South Asian Games. It also provides financial assistance to the athletes who win medals at international events like Olympics, Commonwealth Games etc.

The ministry has helped in the development of a number of world class stadiums in Pakistan such as Jinnah Stadium, Karachi; Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore; Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium, Karachi; KPT Football Stadium, Karachi; Municipal Corporation Cricket Ground, Karachi; Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad etc. These stadiums have hosted many international matches including cricket World Cups, hockey World Cups and football World Cup qualifying matches. The ministry also runs a number of academies for training young athletes such as National Institute of Sports (NIS) Islamabad, Naseer Bunda Hockey Academy Rawalpindi, Pak Sport Board Coaching Centre Doha Qatar etc.

These academies provide state of the art facilities and training to the athletes so that they can perform at their best at international forums.
